The winter transfer window proves to be a period of intense speculation and possible big-money moves. A number of notable stars are being connected to moves out of their current teams. This article explores a selection of the top figures who could be changing clubs this month.

A. Semenyo

Although the Black Stars' inability to reach the Africa Cup of Nations, which has kept the player in contention, it appears a major transfer is imminent. This Bournemouth attacker has a deal with a substantial release clause active for a brief period at the start of the month. Recent reports point to Manchester City look to have won the race for his signature. Former interested parties such as Tottenham and Chelsea reportedly have turned their attention to other targets, leaving teams such as Manchester United or Liverpool to attempt a late bid.

M. Guéhi

The England centre-back has continued to excel for Palace despite a summer transfer to Liverpool falling through. With his contract set to run out in the summer, this represents the London club's final chance to obtain a fee for their captain. A host of elite sides, such as City and multiple European giants including Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, are believed to be interested. Yet, a winter departure is considered unlikely, especially given the manager's dependence on the defender.

B. Johnson

This Wales winger has had first-team opportunities limited at Tottenham this campaign. Despite finishing as the club's top scorer last season, Johnson has started just a small number of league matches. Reports suggest the North London club is willing to consider a sale for the right price, believed to be in the region of £40 million. Bournemouth appear to be leading the chase, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford also credited with an inquiry.

Tottenham value the Welsh international at approximately £40m.

R. Neves

This Portugal midfielder might be poised for a return to the Premier League following a period in Saudi Arabia. Now only 28, and with his contract expiring in the summer of 2026, he represents a possible opportunity. Clubs like Liverpool and Manchester United are linked with the player. Furthermore, there are suggestions from Spain that he is willing to accept a pay cut for a switch to the Spanish giants.

Marc-André ter Stegen

This experienced Germany shot-stopper finds himself as the third option at Barça under new manager Flick. After fallen out of favour and had surgery, a winter exit seems highly likely. Villa were once linked as a potential destination, but that option now appears off. Instead, interest from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are thought to be showing interest in the 33-year-old.

Ivan Toney

The prolific England striker has continued finding the net regularly in Saudi Arabia. A return to the Premier League could boost his fading chances of making the national squad. However, arranging a transfer presents major hurdles. Al-Ahli are reluctant to sell him, and his alleged enormous weekly wages make any agreement difficult. Tottenham, Manchester United, and Everton are all mentioned as interested parties.

The striker was instrumental as his Saudi club to victory in the Saudi Super Cup showpiece.

C. Gallagher

The dynamic midfielder attracted considerable interest in the summer but stayed at Atlético Madrid. With few starting appearances in La Liga this season, he may be eager to find more playing time ahead of the World Cup. H. Elliott

Although excelling and being named player of the tournament at the Under-21 European Championship in the summer, this young midfielder has found it tough for minutes on loan at Villa. Unai Emery has confirmed the loan move won't be made permanent. Because of FIFA regulations about playing for two clubs in a season, a return to his parent club prior to next summer seems to be the only available solution.

K. Yildiz

The exciting Turkish attacker is in fine form for Juventus this term. As his existing contract nearing its end, a host of Premier League sides – such as Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham – are monitoring the developments. Juventus are eager to tie down the 20-year-old to a new long-term agreement but are in a battle to keep one of Europe's brightest young talents.

K. Smit

This highly-touted Dutch midfielder has earned comparisons to Kevin De Bruyne for his playing style. Following impressing at the U19 Euros, Smit has broken into the AZ side. The teenager is heavily tipped to make a major transfer this month. Newcastle reportedly are leading the chase, but are facing stiff rivalry from the Spanish champions for a signing valued at approximately £22 million.
