Just as the recent storm tore through the north-west the previous evening, City overwhelmed the visitors away at the Etihad Stadium. It was a convincing 3-0 win for their manager's side due to goals from Knaak, Bunny Shaw and Hemp. It was a performance that truly announced their championship potential as they strengthened their position at the WSL pinnacle.

Consecutive Setbacks for Manchester United

This outcome signalled successive WSL losses for Marc Skinner’s side for the first time since spring 2024, putting them a sizable gap off the top team with their title hopes severely dented.

United’s capacity to balance league and European football with a thin squad has been a widely debated issue since they earned a place in the European competition. Looking at the schedule, it always appeared this was the period that would fully examine this ability. Unfortunately for the opposition, they seemed weary throughout, the landmark win against the French side clearly having taken a toll.

Lineup Adjustments

Previously unable to beat any opponent who finished above them in the prior term, the manager's side now have victories against Arsenal and Manchester United to put them in a strong position after nine matches.
